Shopian, Apr 9, KNT: In a late-night incident, unidentified burglars made an unsuccessful attempt to loot an ATM of the State Bank of India (SBI) at the Goal Chakri area in south Kashmir’s Shopian district.
According to reports, the burglars broke open the shutter of the ATM kiosk and tried to access the cash vault during the intervening night, but they failed in their attempt.
Local sources said the matter came to light early morning when locals noticed the damaged shutter and informed the police. A police team soon arrived at the scene and initiated investigations.
Preliminary assessment suggested that the burglars may have been disturbed or failed to breach the inner compartment of the ATM. The exact amount of cash stored inside the machine at the time was yet to be officially confirmed.
Police have registered a case and are scanning CCTV footage from the ATM and surrounding areas to identify the culprits. Forensic teams were also seen collecting evidence from the scene. [KNT]
