BJP Claims Normalcy in Srinagar, Blames NC for Political Instability

Srinagar, Apr 12, CNS: In a strong defence of the BJP-led Centre’s approach to Jammu and Kashmir, Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma on Saturday said the Union Territory has witnessed a dramatic transformation in recent years, from violence and shutdowns to peace and economic revival.

Speaking at a press briefing in Srinagar, Sharma noted the visible change in downtown Srinagar, once a hub of protests and hartals. “Now there are no shutdowns, schools are functioning, businesses are open, and life is normal. This is the new face of Kashmir,” he said.

The BJP leader reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to inclusive development, ensuring that all centrally-sponsored schemes continue to benefit every section of society.

However, Sharma also took a dig at the National Conference (NC), accusing the party of stalling Assembly proceedings in the crucial final days of the budget session. “They avoided serious discussion and walked out repeatedly,” he said, adding that the NC is attempting to escape public scrutiny.

Sharma didn’t hold back in criticizing the past record of NC and PDP governments, accusing them of allowing miscreants to flourish and failing to implement laws like the Public Safety Act effectively. “We acted where they failed. We jailed disruptive elements and protected lives,” he asserted.

The BJP leader also touched upon the controversial release of separatist Masrat Alam, blaming NC for celebrating the move during Mufti Mohammad Sayeed’s government.

On the matter of statehood, Sharma clarified that its restoration remains part of the BJP’s roadmap. “It will happen at the right time. But communal sloganeering inside the Assembly will not hasten the process,” he said, accusing NC of trying to inflame tensions for political mileage.

Calling for introspection from the NC over the killings of its own cadre during its time in power, Sharma demanded accountability, stating, “Under Amit Shah’s leadership at the Home Ministry, not a single NC worker has been killed.”

Sharma concluded by saying that the ongoing peace is evident—even the tombs of NC leaders are now guarded—signifying the BJP government’s commitment to stability and security in the region. (CNS)
