LG Sinha Calls for Public Movement Against Drug Abuse in J&K
April 27: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday called for a broader public movement to address drug abuse in Jammu and Kashmir, stating that the issue requires collective participation beyond government efforts.
He made these remarks while addressing participants at an anti-drug padyatra held in Udhampur. The event saw participation from students, volunteers, and local residents.
Sinha said drug abuse remains a significant social concern, particularly among young people, and highlighted the need for coordinated efforts at the community level. He stated that awareness, early intervention, and support systems are necessary to address the problem effectively.
He also emphasized the importance of rehabilitation, noting that individuals affected by substance use should have access to treatment and recovery services. He added that social stigma can act as a barrier to seeking help and needs to be addressed.
During the event, an anti-drug bike rally was flagged off, and several awareness activities were conducted, including sports initiatives and competitions aimed at engaging youth.
Officials also acknowledged individuals who have undergone rehabilitation, presenting them as part of ongoing recovery efforts.
The Lieutenant Governor said that action against drug trafficking will continue alongside awareness and prevention measures. He reiterated that cooperation between government agencies, educational institutions, and communities is necessary to reduce drug abuse in the region.
