Sajad Lone slams ruling party over inflated power bills

Srinagar, Nov 19, KNT: Peoples Conference Chairman Sajad Gani Lone Tuesday lambasted the government for mismanaging electricity tariffs, resulting in a staggering 50% increase in electricity bills across Jammu and Kashmir. He questioned the government’s commitment to reducing electricity tariffs, citing broken promises and deceptive tactics.

While taking to the micro-blogging site, Sajad Lone as per the news agency Kashmir News Trust expressed concern over the financial burden on households, saying, “We are receiving numerous complaints from villages where electricity bills have risen steeply by 50%. Did the government not assure a reduction, or is this just another example of false promises?”

He accused the ruling party of inflating tariffs before elections, only to offer partial waivers later, leaving consumers paying more.

“If a household paid 100 for electricity, the government hikes it to 200, then waives 50, leaving the consumer with a final bill of 150—still 50% higher. This is not relief; it’s a trick,” he said and demanded immediate intervention from the Power Development Department to halt these “unjustified and arbitrary” increases in electricity bills.
