Election Postmortem: Sarjan Barkati secures 438 votes from Ganderbal, 12282 from Beerwah

Srinagar, Oct 21, KNT: Incarcerated separatist leader Sarjan Ahmad Wagay popularly known as Sarjan Barkati secured a total of 12,720 votes from two assembly segments in Kashmir. He contested from Beerwah and Ganderbal constituencies.

The data shows that Barkati finished third in Beerwah securing 12,282 votes. The seat was won by National Conference candidate Shafi Ahmad Wani by 4161 votes. He defeated his nearest rival Nazir Khan from Awami Ithihad Party. Khan secured 15957 votes.

Among the 13 candidates as per the news agency Kashmir News Trust Barkati finished 4th  in Beerwah where he enjoyed good support.

Barkati’s performance was, however, far below in the Ganderbal assembly segment where he finished 12th out of 16 candidates securing only 438 votes. Omar Abdullah won the Ganderbal seat with a convincing margin. [KNT]
