The ration curtailment issue continues to trigger protests in Kashmir capital Srinagar.

A large number of men and women Tuesday staged a protest in the Maisuma area of Srinagar city urging the government to roll back its order and provide ration to the people under the old scheme.

“Earlier we used to get 11 kgs of ration but that is not the case now. We are entitled to only 4 kg ration which is not sufficient for a family,” the women protesters told the news agency Kashmir News Trust.

The protesters appealed to the government to take serious note of the situation and roll back its earlier order.

“Rice is a staple food of people in Kashmir. Instead of stopping the additional ration, people should be given ration in abundance,” the protesters said and appealed to the LG administration to take a decision on humanitarian grounds.

Pertinently, all the major political parties of Jammu and Kashmir including the Apni Party, National Conference, PDP, and Peoples Conference have been impressing the government to continue supplying ration to the people under the earlier scheme.  [KNT]
