Constituency Round-Up: NC was ‘first’ preference of Eidgah voters
The Eidgah Constituency in Srinagar city didn’t witness a huge voter turnout as was expected by political pundits.
Out of over 80,000 votes, 16,160 votes were polled in the Eidgah segment with over 80 booths.
Reliable sources informed the news agency Kashmir News Trust that out of over 16,000 votes polled in the Eidgah segment, the National Conference has secured over 12,000 votes. If sources are to be believed, the candidate from Azad’s DPAP stood ahead of candidates from the PDP and Apni Party.
In the 2014 Assembly elections, 16,352 votes were polled in the Eidgah segment, and in the 2024 Parliament elections which were held yesterday, all but the number of votes were the same as were in 2014. Voter turnout didn’t see any upsurge.
A political leader who contested Assembly elections from this constituency in 2014 said that NC secured over 12,000 votes due to the wrong policies of the BJP. ‘It was not vote for local NC leader Mubarak Gul but open display of hate against BJP,” he said. [KNT]
