Road accident aftermath: GoC visits South Kashmir to thank people, doctors

Shopian: GoC 15 Core, Lieutenant General DP Pandey Wednesday visited District Hospital Shopian to thank doctors for the treatment of the soldiers who were brought to the hospital after a deadly road accident.

Three soldiers were killed after the Sumo they were traveling in met with an accident at Kanipora village of Shopian. The vehicle was en route to the Budigam encounter site on 14 April last week. The slain soldiers were identified as Subedar Shri Om, Havildar Ramautar and Sepahi Pawan Singh.

Army Commander DP Pandey after the culmination of the hospital visit told reporters that he was in the Shopian hospital to thank the people of Shopian and the doctors.

“After the accident, it were local people of Shopian that evacuated soldiers to the hospital. No police and army were present there,” he said adding that the army is grateful to the locals of Shopian.

He said doctors at district hospital Shopain took great care of the injured soldiers and the army is also thankful to them.

In response to a question, DP Pandey as per news agency Kashmir News Trust said that militancy is declining in Shopian district and people are playing a great role in the elimination of militancy. (KNT)
