Police and civil administration rescued over 200 sheep of nomads during pre-dawn hours in South Kashmir’s Qazigund area of Kulgam district after midnight rains.

Local sources told news agency Kashmir News Trust that following heavy rainfall in Qazigund, Police and Civil Administration rescued over 200 sheep after the water level in the Nullah where on its banks nomads had erected their tents rose to an abrupt level.

One of the owners of the livestock, Bashir Ahmed said that there was a massive rainfall during night hours. “Due to the abrupt rise in water level, our sheep got stuck and some of them drowned. We called vice chairman Municipal Committee Qazigund and later on police and a civil administration team reached the stop at around 5 AM and after the 3-hour long rescue operation, over 200 sheep were shifted to a safer place,” he said and thanked police and civil administration for the timely help.

Kashmir Valley has been witnessing intermittent rainfall for the last several days while most of the tourist spots received snowfall. Due to inclement weather, cloud bursts have claimed at least 4 lives including a young couple in South Kashmir.

Meanwhile, Weather Office has predicted dry weather from Tuesday. [KNT]
