Police have rebutted the allegations leveled by senior political leader Ruhullah Mehdi who had alleged that police and civil administration Budgam are intimidating the protesters and the family of murdered woman for staging a candle march.
Police have already arrested the accused who allegedly murdered a lady from Mohandpora Soibugh area of Budgam and buried her body parts at different places.
Ruhullah Mehdi as per the news agency Kashmir News Trust after tweeting talked to reporters claiming that police instead of allowing the peaceful protest are intimidating locals who had organized a candle light march to express solidarity with the affected family.
“I was in Soibugh for the condolence with the family of the recently murdered. The family told me in fear that the district police threatened them because some young boys of the area had taken out a candlelight march yesterday evening. This is intimidation of the highest order,” Ruhullah Mehdi tweeted adding that instead of consoling the family and assuring them of the harshest possible punishment to the murderer, the police have resorted to threats & intimidation to the family. “This should immediately stop and the police should apologize to the family for having made them feel threatened,” he wrote.
In response, Budgam police wrote: “Fiction apart, facts are here: Within hours of filing the complaint, police arrested the accused and recovered the body parts. When the police are making a strong case, why politicize the grave incident. Even in the candlelight march, people thanked police for quick response. Period.”
Meanwhile, DC Budgam SF Hamid and SSP Budgam Tahir Geelani visited the bereaved family and assured them the accused will be awarded the harshest possible punishment and justice will be given to the family. [KNT]
