Kulgam, May 17, KNT: District Hospital Kulgam in South Kashmir is probably the only hospital where Operation Theater (OT) remains shut on Sundays.
The hospital doesn’t manage any pregnancy case on Sunday. The hospital according to attendants and patients relies on referral system.
Doctors either refer the patients to MCH Anantnag or Srinagar Lal Ded Hospital those as per data are already overburdened by ‘normal cases’.
“It has become a routine now for the District Hospital Kulgam to lock down the OT every Sunday. The patients of the district have now stopped visiting the hospital on Sunday,” a local shopkeeper from Kulgam said.
Sources said that in a bid to stop and discourage District Hospital Kulgam from the referral system, the former Medical Superintendent at Maternity and Child Care Hospital-Anantnag in a communique to the authorities had urged them to take action against the Kulgam hospital management, but on the ground, nothing changed.
In charge Medical Superintendent DH Kulgam, Dr Khurhid Ahmed, and Chief Medical Officer Kulgam Dr Rafiq Ahmed Dhobi told news agency Kashmir News Trust that OT remains closed on Sunday due to the fumigation process. Both said that only serious cases are being referred to MCH or Lal Ded hospital. (KNT)
