Tensions Run High in Bachro Village Following Poll Outcome
Kulgam, Oct 9, KNT: A clash broke out between supporters of CPI(M) candidate Muhammed Yousuf Tarigami and Jamat-i-Islami candidate Sayar Ahmed in Bachro village of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district, following Tarigami’s win in the assembly elections.
Locals of Bachro village alleged that Tarigami’s supporters set off firecrackers in their yards, created a ruckus, and vandalized gates of villagers who backed JeI candidate Sayar Ahmed.
Mir Ubaid, headman of Bachroo village, told the news agency Kashmir News Trsut that Muhammad Umar, a young villager, was assaulted by Tarigami’s supporters in Tarigam village.
Ubaid stated that the villagers’ only fault was supporting Sayar and not casting votes for Tarigami.
In response, Bachro villagers staged a protest, blocking road and denouncing the high-handedness of Tarigami’s supporters.
Tarigami, a five-time MLA from Kulgam constituency, secured 44.86% of votes, defeating Sayar Ahmed who garnered 34.40%. [KNT]
