Pedestrian Mehjoor Nagar Bridge Project in Limbo
Srinagar, Aug 30, KNT: The pedestrian bridge linking Mehjoor Nagar and Jawahar Nagar at Mahjoor Nagar Bund has woefully missed its deadline, leaving a substantial segment of the population in a state of utter dismay.
As the locals lament, the project’s sluggish pace has raised eyebrows, with many speculating that its completion may be pushed back by a year. This stark reality stands in stark contrast to the initial assurances made by authorities, who had confidently declared that the bridge would be completed within twelve months.
As per the news agency Kashmir News Trust the foundation stone of this project was laid with great fanfare in August 2022 by then Srinagar Mayor Junaid Azim Mattu and Commissioner SMC Athar Amir Khan. The bridge, being constructed at an approved cost of Rs 4.95 crores, boasts an impressive road length of approximately 106 meters. However, the project’s progress has been marred by inexplicable delays, with work grinding to a halt for a couple of months due to reasons best known to the Srinagar Municipal Corporation.
Locals have fervently appealed to the Commissioner SMC to intervene and ensure the project’s completion without any further delay. The bridge’s non-completion has not only caused inconvenience but has also raised questions about the authorities’ commitment to public infrastructure development.
As the wait continues, the people of Mehjoor Nagar and Jawahar Nagar can only hope that their pleas will be heard, and the pedestrian bridge will become a reality, rather than a distant dream. [KNT]
