Waterlogging: ‘Perfect day to test the water transport modal on city roads’

As usual, incessant rains threw life out of gear on flooded roads in Kashmir capital Srinagar.

The city roads upgraded and macadamized and adorned with shiny lights and other stuff deflated the tall claims of civic authorities. Everywhere, roads were waterlogged.

At picturesque, Boulevard Road, the scene was amusing for some tourists as they felt like wading in a stream rather than walking on any road. “I am amused as well as surprised the way the Boulevard Road has submerged in the rainwater. I pity those engineers who might have prepared a plan under the smart city project in Srinagar,” a tourist from Maharashtra told the news agency Kashmir News Trust adding that it is a vital road and the authorities should have made arrangements to prevent the problem.

The flaws in the smart city project were exposed due to the waterlogging on Monday. There were massive traffic snarls in the evening in several parts of the city due to waterlogging, with the problem compounded by some puddles on roads that slowed down the speed of the vehicles.

Sources said that complaints of waterlogging poured in from different parts of the Srinagar city. Netizens made fun of the smart city projects posting waterlogged photographs and videos of roads on social media networking platforms.

Due to the massive waterlogging a netizen wrote: “What a perfect day to test the water transport modal on city roads.” [KNT]
