Court Restrains Police from Filing Final Report Against Animal Activists

Jammu, May 5, KNT: Justice Muhammad Yousuf Wani of the High Court of J&K and Ladakh has directed the Station House Officer (SHO) of Miran Sahib Police Station not to file the final report in a case against three animal activists without the Court’s permission.

The case (FIR No. 0033/2025), registered on March 9 under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, involves Devinder Kour Madaan alias Rumpy Madaan (Chairperson of NGO SAVE), Radhika Sharma (JMC volunteer), and Didar Singh (SAVE member). The directive came while hearing a plea seeking the FIR’s quashment.

Advocate Sheikh Shakeel Ahmed, representing the activists, argued that the FIR is a retaliatory move after an earlier complaint (FIR No. 0031/2025) was lodged against two locals, Dara Singh and Manga Singh, for alleged cruelty to puppies. He contended the counter FIR was filed to harass the activists and hinder their work.

The Court allowed police to continue investigating but barred submission of the final report under Section 193 of BNSS without prior approval. The petition is listed for further hearing on June 2. [KNT]
