Srinagar, Apr 8, KNT: Indian Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday chaired a high-level security review meeting of the Unified Headquarters at Raj Bhawan. The meeting, which brought together the top brass of India’s security and intelligence agencies, was centered around stamping out militancy and preventing cross-border infiltration.
The Home Minister, currently on a three-day visit to the Union Territory, assessed both security arrangements and developmental initiatives. The gathering included Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Intelligence Bureau Director Tapan Deka, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, senior Army commanders from Northern, 15, 16, and 9 Corps, as well as officials from BSF, CRPF, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and civil administration.
Sources privy to the discussions said Amit Shah laid clear directives: ensure seamless coordination among security forces, aim for zero infiltration across the Line of Control, and eliminate remaining militant threats, particularly in the Jammu region. He reportedly appreciated the operational preparedness of the forces and pressed for enhanced vigilance ahead of the busy summer season, which includes the Amarnath Yatra and peak tourist influx.
Earlier in the day, Shah presided over a separate meeting reviewing key development projects. This meeting was attended by LG Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Chief Secretary Atul Dulloo, and senior bureaucrats from various departments. Shah is believed to have urged faster execution of public welfare schemes and infrastructure development, aligning with the Centre’s broader vision for a ‘Naya Kashmir’.
Before the day’s official engagements, Amit Shah held a private one-on-one discussion with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, signaling possible behind-the-scenes political consultations.
Taking to social media platform X, the Home Minister revealed that three more constituents had exited the separatist Hurriyat Conference, aligning instead with the Indian Constitution. He described the move as a validation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a new, peaceful Jammu and Kashmir, free from violence and discord. [KNT]
