Srinagar, Mar 15, KNT: Calling for a complete ban on private practice by government doctors, Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Kupwara, Mir Muhammad Fayaz, has alleged that patient care in government hospitals is suffering as doctors prioritize personal clinics over their official duties. He asserted that many doctors spend only a few hours in hospitals before shifting their focus to private practice, leading to a healthcare system driven by personal profit rather than public service.
Speaking on Saturday, Mir also criticized the frequent transfer requests by doctors posted in Kupwara district, alleging that they exploit security concerns to secure postings in Srinagar and other urban areas. He argued that this trend is leaving remote districts like Kupwara deprived of proper medical services, forcing residents to travel long distances for treatment.
The MLA urged the authorities to implement stricter policies to ensure that government doctors remain dedicated to their duties in rural areas. He emphasized that without concrete action, the public healthcare system will continue to suffer, particularly in far-flung areas where medical services are already limited.
Mir called on the health department to take decisive steps to curb these practices and ensure that healthcare professionals fulfill their responsibilities without bias or personal interest. His remarks have reignited the debate over medical ethics and the need for policy reforms to improve healthcare delivery in Jammu and Kashmir.
