CM Omar Abdullah Reviews Preparations at Z-Morh Tunnel Ahead of PM Modi’s Visit

Sonmarg, Jan 13, KNT: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday visited the Z-Morh Tunnel site in Sonmarg to oversee arrangements ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit on Monday.

The Prime Minister is set to inaugurate the much-anticipated tunnel, which is expected to significantly boost year-round connectivity and tourism in the region.

Sharing his thoughts on the social media platform X, Abdullah wrote, “Visited Sonmarg today to review preparations for PM Narendra Modi Ji’s visit on Monday. The inauguration of the Z-Morh tunnel will open Sonmarg to tourism all year round. Sonmarg will now be developed as a great ski resort. The local population will not have to leave in winter & the travel time to Kargil/Leh from Srinagar will also reduce.”

The Z-Morh Tunnel, a vital infrastructure project, connects the Gagangir area of Ganderbal district to Sonmarg, ensuring all-weather access to the picturesque valley, which previously remained cut off during winters due to heavy snowfall. [KNT]
