Karnataka Govt intervenes, resolves beard-shaving controversy involving Kashmiri students
Srinagar, Nov 11, KNT: A controversy surrounding Kashmiri students being forced to shave their beards at a nursing college in Karnataka has been resolved, thanks to prompt intervention from Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s office. The students, from the Government College of Nursing in Holenarasipur, affiliated with the ‘Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences’ have been assured that their cultural and religious practices will be respected.
The college administration has apologized for the infringement, stating that strict action will be taken against the officials involved.
Notably, the issue was brought to the notice of the Karnataka Government by the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association which expressed gratitude to the Karnataka government for its commitment to justice, equality, and inclusivity. [KNT]
