MCC Violation? Mebooba Mufti booked, says its price for speaking truth to power

 

Srinagar 29 May, KNT: A case has been registered against former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti for violating Model Code of Conduct.

Mehbooba Mufti had staged protest against the arrest of her workers on polling day thus according to the Returning Officer she violated MCC.

Assistant Returning Officer, 445 Srigufwara Bijbehara in a complaint to the effect stated that on 25/05//2024 a large number of PDP workers led by Mehbooba Mufti assembled in Bijbehara town and raised slogans for releasing of PDP workers which amounted to the gross violation of MCC.

“The huge group of PDP workers also blocked the main road and staged a protest at the main spot Bijbehara for more than one hour, [amounting] violations of sections 144 CrPC, which was imposed in the parliamentary 3-Anantnag-Rajouri Constituency ordered by District Magistrate concerned,” reads a part of the complaint in the FIR.

In response to the official action, Mehbooba Mufti took to Twitter and wrote: “Amusing to find an FIR filed against me for apparently flouting MCC. This is the price PDP has paid for speaking truth to power. Our protest was against GOI in cahoots with the local administration for detaining hundreds of PDP polling agents & workers in the hours leading up to voting. Still not satisfied, the same administration went on to launch Cordon & Search Operations in traditional PDP stronghold areas to terrorize our voters and prevent them from exercising their right to vote.
