Police Chief chairs security meet ahead of Amarnath Yatra

Ahead of Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, the Director General of Police, J&K, Dilbag Singh Tuesday chaired a high-level security review meeting here at Police Headquarters. The DGP during the meeting took a comprehensive review of the security arrangements being placed for the Yatra.

Addressing the meeting, the DGP said that after the successful conduct of very important events Jammu and Kashmir Police is ready with the next big assignment of Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, an annual and very significant event. He directed for optimum utilization of available resources in accommodating the requirements of District Police units that are directly concerned with the Yatra. Emphasizing putting in extra efforts in ensuring the incident-free Yatra, the DGP directed for mobilization of manpower from different wings & districts. He also directed the dovetailing the BDS teams at important locations with deployments. He further directed the officers to ensure that all the SOPs are followed in letter and spirit and stressed for fixing the responsibility of each team head deputed for the yatra. He directed the officers to submit the requirements, if any which he said would be provided on priority.

The DGP directed for deploying assistance teams with all required tools at base camps and other important places for assistance and help to the pilgrims. He directed for placing all possible security arrangements of Base Camps and strengthening the communication network. He stressed for effective and planned regulation of traffic management on the national highway and other roads, parking of vehicles, and deployment of forces on both the yatra routes of Pahalgam and Baltal etc. He directed that the conduct of deployed personnel should be exemplary, adding that they are also doing facilitation duty besides ensuring safe and secure event.

The DGP emphasized upon the officers to make adequate use of modern security gadgets/technology including CCTVs, drones to further augment the security at important Yatra locations and en-route. He stressed for keeping a special focus on sensitive locations and base camps including dhabas, langars, eateries & parking places. He directed for the deployment of quick response teams to provide immediate assistance to the pilgrims. Directing for the establishment of special helplines for the pilgrims, the DGP stressed that helpline numbers of PCRs, District Police officers including SDPOs, & SHOs should be made public and be circulated through every possible medium so that yatris could take note and ask for any assistance effortlessly. He directed for conducting the mock drills of different contingency plans and also to conduct dry run of convoy under the supervision of senior officers well before the start of the Yatra.

The meeting was attended by Special DG CID, J&K, R. R Swain, ADsGP S. J. M. Gillani, M.K Sinha, Vijay Kumar, IGP Hqrs/Traffic B S Tuti, DsIG Sujit Kumar, Vivek Gupta, Imtiaz Ismail Parray, Rayees Mohammad Bhat, Shahid Mehraj, DIG HG/CID Kashmir, Divisional Commandant HG Srinagar, SSP Security Kashmir, District SSsP of Srinagar, Bandipora, Ganderbal, Pulwama, Budgam, Kulgam & Awantipora, SSP Traffic Srinagar, AIsG of PHQ attend the meeting at PHQ. While ADGP Jammu Mukesh Singh, DIsG Sunil Gupta, M Suleman Choudhary & Shakti Pathak, District SSsP of Jammu, Kathua, Samba, Udhampur, Ramban, Shopian, Kupwara & Handwara, SSP Traffic Rural/City and SSP Security Jammu attended the meeting through virtual mode.

The ADGP Jammu and ADGP Kashmir apprised the DGP regarding the arrangements with regard to security and deployment of manpower in their respective Zones to ensure a peaceful Yatra. ADGP Kashmir in his Power Point presentation highlighted security arrangements on both routes leading to the Holy Cave. The Range DsIG and District SSsP who are directly connected with the Yatra also briefed the chair about the security arrangement being taken for the event. [KNT]
