Last year Police registered 31 cases under NDPS Act and arrested 50 alleged drug addicts and peddlers in different parts of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

Most of the drug addicts and peddlers hail from adjacent hamlets of Bijbehara town of the district.

The information provided by the Jammu Kashmir Police as per the news agency Kashmir News Trust reveals that young and old men are involved in the drug trade. Even a youth aged 21 and a 70-year-old man were booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985 last year.

While arresting these 50 drug addicts and peddlers last year, police in Anantnag recovered Codeine Phosphate bottles, capsules, charas, heroin, and poppy straw from their possession.

Police also seized 5 vehicles and a digital weighing machine from some of the arrested drug peddlers. [KNT]
