Srinagar woman alleges domestic violence by husband; Police register case

A woman married to a man in Srinagar outskirts has accused her husband of domestic violence and has approached the police for her security. Following her complaint, police have registered a formal FIR against her husband under relevant sections of law.

As per the FIR accessed by the news agency Kashmir News Trust that has been lodged at Police Station Zakura, the woman hails from the Noor Bagh area of Srinagar city and is married to one Tariq Ahmed Bhat son of Ghulam Qadir, a resident of Burzahama locality of Srinagar outskirts.

The woman has also provided photographs of the assault by her husband to police.

The woman has stated that her husband has been torturing her, finding new excuses every time and she feels insecure at her husband’s home.

“My husband tears off my hair and clothes and thrashes me for no reason. He intimidates me and threatens to kill me. I was left with no option but to approach the police for my safety,” the woman stated.

Taking cognizance of the complaint, police have registered a case under sections 498A and 506 against the accused for subjecting her wife to cruelty and criminal intimidation. [KNT]
