A 7-year-old kid slipped to death in a pond backside of a government school in Sedow village of South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Tuesday.

Police sources told news agency Kashmir News Trust that the kid identified as Farhan Muzaffar of Sedow village while walking on the outer cemented path of a pond lost balance and drowned to death.

The pond that locals use for drinking purposes for the live-stock is situated 40 feets away from the Government Middle School Sedow.

“We had requested the school authorities to do fencing of the school premises repeatedly but that didn’t materialize. It’s a man-made constructed pond adjacent to a meadow as well as a school where cattle quench their thirst,” Iqbal Ahmed, a local told news agency Kashmir News Trust.

The body of the victim was fished out by locals from the pond.

Police visited the spot and registered a case under relevant sections of law.

Locals reiterated their demand and appealed to authorities to do fencing of the school where kids are being imparted education. [KNT]
