Police in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district have booked a notorious drug peddler under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

The infamous drug peddler has been identified as Barkat Ali Mian alias Raja, a resident of Mian Mohalla Pattan.

A police spokesperson said that after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent authority Barkat Ali was detained and subsequently lodged in Central Jail Kot-Balwal Jail in Jammu.

Barkat Ali as per locals was a threat to society who according to them was instrumental in promoting drug culture in the Pattan belt.

Police said that multiple cases against the accused were registered in different police stations. “He was involved in the drug abuse trade and was a drug supplier to youth in Baramulla district.”

Despite his involvement in many FIRs the accused did not mend his activities and kept on promoting drug culture and supplying drugs to naïve young men. [KNT]
