40 permanent employees deployed to curb man-animal conflict in Kashmir

Department of Wild Life Protection in Kashmir Valley lacks the manpower to check man-wild animal conflict.

The data shows that the men and equipment available with the field staff of the wildlife department deployed to tackle wild animal attacks are not sufficient.

Various human lives were lost in different wild animal attacks. Wild animals especially leopards enter residential areas and create fear psychosis among the populace.
The official data as per the news agency Kashmir News Trust reveals that there are only 40 permanent employees deployed in the Central, North, and South Kashmir divisions of the Wildlife Department which according to the experts is not adequate.

In the South Kashmir Division of Shopian, only 3 permanent employees are deployed to curb man-wild animal conflict. In the same division of Bijbehara, there are 19 employees, followed by Central and North Kashmir divisions where 9 permanent employees each have been deployed.

Out of a total of 12 rescue vans, 5 are stationed in Central Division, 3 in North Kashmir Division, and 4 in South Kashmir Division.

At present, there are 196 cages, 29 nets, and 28 guns available with the Wildlife Department among which 61 cages, 3 nets, and 10 guns are present in Central Division, 60cages, 6 nets, and 8 guns in Northern Division, and 75 cages, 20 nets and 10 guns in Southern Division. [KNT]
