Various hamlets of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district are facing a shortage of drinking water.

These villages include Khandipora Khag, Pahroo village particularly Shah Mohalla, SK Bagh Halqa, Kultreh and Behrampora in Chadoora.

The inhabitants of these villages frequently stage protests to attract the attention of the PHE Department, however, the officials as per villagers seem to be callous towards their sufferings.

They have been urging the concerned authorities to take necessary measures to relieve the general public.

The inhabitants of Pahroo village particularly Shah Mohalla which is barely 8 km away from the National Highway are facing a huge dearth of essential water supply. The same is the case with other villages including Khandipora Khag.

“Nobody listens to us. All our requests and pleas have been going to deaf ears,” a protester from Khandipora village told the news agency Kashmir News Trust.

Another protester said that this is not a model of development which people had yearned for. “Is this how a welfare government should treat its citizens where their families are being deprived of requisite water supply?” he questioned.

When contacted, a top official from PHE said that he will look into the matter and try to address the grievance of the people. [KNT]
