Mercury plunged across Kashmir valley even tourist resort Gulmarg witnesses minus temperature after fresh snowfall.
Officials said that higher reaches of Valley witnessed fresh snowfall bringing down day and night temperatures, even minus in world famous ski-resort Gulmarg.
Gurez in North Kashmir witnessed over 9 inches of snowfall within 24 hours. The slippery condition of the road prompted the authorities to close down Gurez-Bandipora road for traffic.
The minimum temperature in the Gulmarg tourist resort plunged to minus 3.6 degrees Celsius, they said.
Gulmarg tourist resort, Machil, Sadhna Pass and Zojila Pass were some of the places in the valley witnessing fresh snowfall.
Ladakh region also received the snowfall. Official sources told news agency Kashmir News Trust that Kargil, Nobra, Leh, Zanskar, Panikhar, witnessed moderate to heavy snowfall. Kashmir capital Srinagar and other district headquarters were lashed by the rains.
Various parts of Jammu region including Chenab Valley also received snowfall. All the primary and middle schools of the Kishtwar district were closed on Monday due to harsh weather conditions by the district administration. Although high schools and higher secondary schools functioned normally.
In Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir, Primary and Middle schools were also shut down by the administration due to inclement weather.
The minimum temperature in Valley was above the freezing point almost in every part, the officials said.
The meteorological department has forecast a five-day wet spell of weather in Kashmir ending on November 10. (KNT)
