Militant casualties in September stop at 14 in Kashmir Valley

In 10 encounters which raged in September, 14 militants including 2 infiltrators and a Pakistani militant were killed in Kashmir Valley.

Among 10 gunfights, militants managed to escape from 2 encounter sites in Baskuchan and Chitragam villages of South Kashmir’s Shopian district.

The data available with the news agency Kashmir News Trust reveals that there were 3 encounters in Shopian, 2 each in Anantnag and Kulgam and one each in Srinagar, Barmaulla and Kupwara.

In Kupwara, two infiltrators were killed when as per police, army foiled an infiltration bid along LoC Tekri Nar in Machil area. A Pakistan militant Abu Hurrairah was killed while a soldier and two civilians were injured in Batapora Chawalgam area of Kulgam market.

The 11 local militants killed in September were Danish Bhat alias Kokab Duree of Jablipora Bijbehara and Basharat Nabi Lone of Fathepore Anantnag (Poshkeeri Anantnag encounter), Fayaz Ahmed Kumar alias Faheem and Owais Khan of Waghama Bijbehara (Thajiwara Anantnag encounter), newly recruited militant Akib Ahmad Pall of Drawani Imamsahib village of Shopian (Heff Shirmal Shopian encounter), Shahid Ahmed of Malpora Budgam and Ajaz Rasool of Karimabad Pulwama (Nowgam Srinagar encounter), Muhammad Shafi Ganai of Batapora Kulgam and Muhammad Asif Wani of Takia Gopalpora Kulgam (Awhatto Kulgam encounter), Yawar Shafi Bhat of Kalampora Pulwama and Aamir Hussain Bhat of Veshro Shopian (Yedipora Pattan Baramulla encounter).

Militants struck twice in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district, targeting migrant labourers. In two militant attacks in Ugargund and Kharpora Ratnipora villages of Pulwam three migrant labourers Muneeb-ul-Islam, Shamshad Sheikh and Faizan Qadri all natives of Bihar sustained injuries.

In September, no casualties other than militants were reported from any part of Valley. (KNT)
