Sand Digger’s Body Retrieved From River After 3 Days, Another Sand Digger Drowns In Kashmir

Jammu Kashmir River Police retrieved the dead body of a labourer after three days from the river Jehlum near Zero Bridge in Kashmir capital Srinagar on Saturday.

Pertinently, 23-year-old labourer Jaafar Ahmed Wani son of Abdul Rashid Wani, a resident of Banihal while extracting sand from the river Jehlum near Armpora Sonwar footbridge had drowned during the pre-dawn hours on Thursday.

River Police had launched an operation shortly after the incident and today after putting all the efforts it managed to retrieve the body near Zero Bridge.

“For the last three days, River Police was looking for the body of the young labourer and today on Saturday, we succeeded in our mission,” an official from the River Police told news agency Kashmir News Trust.

After the completion of all formalities, the body was handed over to the family members for the last rites.

Meanwhile, a 19-year-old migrant labourer from Bihar whom officials identified as Adil Ahmed drowned in the river Jhelum, while extracting sand in South Kashmir’s Pulwama.

An official said that the teen worker is feared dead and efforts are on to retrieve his body. (KNT)
