A 22-year old youth who had recently joined militant ranks was killed in South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Monday.

A gunfight had raged between militants and joint forces in Heff Shermal area of Shopian.

Police said that a militant has been killed in the gunfight whose identity is being ascertained.

Reports said that a soldier also sustained injuries during the fire-fight who has been evacuated to hospital for treatment.

Local sources said that the slain militant had gone missing on 4 September this month and 8 days later he was killed.

Local sources identified the slain militant as Akir Ahmad, son of Muhammed Akram Pall, a resident of Drawani Imamsahib village of Shopian. (KNT)
