Two local militants killed in Kulgam encounter

Two local militants were killed in an encounter in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

The encounter started when combined forces launched a search operation in Nowapora Mir Bazar village of Qazigund town.

Police said that two militants affiliated with the banned outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba were killed in the encounter. They identified the slain militants as Yasir Wani of Wangund Kulgam and Raees Manzoor, a resident of Chotipora village of South Kashmir’s Shopian district.

Police said that incriminating materials, arms & ammunition including one AK-47 rifle & one pistol were recovered from the site of the encounter.

Inspector-General of Police Kashmir Zone, Vijay Kumar said that both the slain militants have been identified as categorized local militants of LeT and again an important encounter as the operation site was very close to National Highway which is the route for Amarnath Yatra. (KNT)
