Kashmir News Trust

All Kashmir Wholesale Mutton Dealers Association Wednesday appealed to authorities to ensure hassle-free transportation of livestock on the Srinagar-Jammu Highway.

“At least 60 trucks transporting livestock to Kashmir Valley were stopped at Udhampur on Tuesday evening. We suffered massive losses as dozens of sheep died inside the trucks due to the long halt in the sweltering heat,” one of the members of the Association told news agency Kashmir News Trust.

He said some of the trucks took Samba, Rajouri route and will try to enter Kashmir via Mughal Road. “The Mughal Road being a hilly one has the potential to cause more damages. We were informed that trucks with livestock will be allowed to ply on Srinagar-Jammu Highway along with the pilgrim convoys from Jammu to Srinagar,” he said and requested Divisional Administration to intervene in the matter.

All Kashmir Wholesale Mutton Dealers Association said they wholeheartedly welcome the arrival of Yatris but at the same time request the authorities to ensure the hassle-free movement of livestock trucks so that there will be no shortage of meat on Eid-ul-Azha. (KNT)
