Shopkeepers at Forest Lane of Srinagar city Thursday claimed that burglars looted ready-made garments worth lakhs from the three shops during the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday.

Police rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation.

As per shopkeepers, they found the shutters of three shops half-open with broken locks after arriving in the market.

“Burglars have looted ready-made garments worth over 6 lakhs from the shop number 34 belonging to Ghulam Rasool Dhobi of Bemina, shop number 50 owned by Bilal Ahmed of Rainawari and shop number 60 belonged to Deen Muhammad, a resident of Lal Bazar area of Srinagar outskirts,” the shopkeepers said.

While talking to news agency Kashmir News Trust, President, ‘Forest Lane Shopkeepers Association’, Mufti Abdul Hamid Shah said that this is the third incident of burglary in the same market. “For past 50 years, the market never witnessed any theft incident but now burglars loot it at will,” he said adding that they have approached the police that assured swift action.

He said that thieves have unsuccessfully tried to break the locks of other shops as well.

One of the shopkeepers Deen Muhammad said that due to fluctuation in electricity, shopkeepers prefer to keep CCTV cameras in off mode during night hours.

A police official said that it seems a burglary attempt. He said that the Forensic team will arrive to take samples and then only things will be clear. (KNT)
