Srinagar, May 11, KNT: The inhabitants of at least five localities in the interiors of Dal Lake Wednesday set the effigy of incumbent Vice Chairman ‘Lake Conservation and Management Authority (LCMA), on fire to protest against what they call the ‘stagnation of developmental works’ in the Dal Lake.
The protest was held at Kachri Mohalla that was attended by the locals from Sofi Mohalla, Tinda Mohallah, AkhoonMohalla and others.
LCMA formerly known as LAWDA as per protesters had been directed to implement a comprehensive developmental plan for the Dal inhabitants by the Chief Secretary Dr A.K Mehta, but the present VC has been acting as a bottleneck and is least bothered about the development of the Dal.

“There is a complete mess. VC is sitting on the government proposal to set up tourist spots in the interiors of Dal Lake. Nothing is being done to boost tourism and conserve Dal Lake at the moment. Photoshoots won’t change the situation,” one of the protesters told news agency Kashmir News Trust adding that even PM Modi in his Kashmir rally had promised conservation of Dal Lake and holistic development of Dal dwellers.
Amid raising slogans against the VC, LCMA Bashir Ahmed Bhat, the protesters sought the intervention of LG Manoj Sinha and Chief Secretary AK Mehta and appealed to them to transfer the present VC as soon as possible and assign the job to an experienced officer.
They said that the current VC is an IRS officer fit for the Revenue Department.
“We hope this officer will be shifted without any delay,” the protesters added. (KNT)
