South Kashmir: Militants escape from gunfight spot in Shopian
Shopian: Militants reportedly managed to escape from the encounter spot in South Kashmir’s Shopian district.
On late Wednesday night, Joint Forces had cordoned off Haaripora village of Shopian after receiving inputs about the presence of militants.
During the search operation, contact with militants was established resulting in a brief exchange of fire. The area had been sealed for the whole night to prevent militants from escaping from the spot.
Sources said there was no exchange of fire since Thursday morning. During the search operation, no militants were found in the area after which the operation was called off.
This is the second time in the Shopian district that militants managed to give a slip to the joint forces after an exchange of fire. In January 26, this year, three soldiers were injured in a brief shootout in Chek Nowgam village of the district after which militants escaped from the spot. (KNT)
