DSP Lynching Case: Expedite the legal process, say families of incarcerated youth
Srinagar: Srinagar Downtown families whose beloveds are in jail in connection with the lynching of a police officer Wednesday appealed to LG to do justice to them. “If our sons are involved in the killing of the police officer then they should be punished, otherwise, release them as the lengthy legal process is taking a toll on the parents of the incarcerated youth,’ they said.
DSP Muhammad Ayoub Pandit was allegedly lynched to death by a mob in 2017 on June 23 night at Jamia Masjid in Nowhatta Srinagar.
Police after the incident had claimed that it arrested over 20 accused in connection with the lynching of the police officer, however, the families of the arrested youth had vouched for their innocence, demanding their release.
Some families assembled in Press Enclave Srinagar and staged a peaceful protest. They carried a banner along with the photograph of slain police officer which read: “we request legal authorities to expedite the legal process and deliver justice to victims and punishment to defaulters.”
Muhammad Ayoub, a resident of Sazgaripora Hawal, whose son Danish Ayoub is languishing in jail since 2017 told news agency Kashmir News Trust his incarcerated son is the youngest among his four sons. “He is innocent, being shifted from one jail to another. If he has done anything, then punish him. Please expedite the legal process and give justice to the families of incarcerated people,” he said.
Another elderly man said that his son was the sole bread earner for the family. “My son used to spend much of his time outside Valley and I vouch for his innocence. We appeal to LG Manoj Sinha to do justice and expedite the legal process,” he said. (KNT)
