Shopian: A militant was killed in an encounter that raged on Wednesday morning between militants and joint forces in South Kashmir’s Shopian district.
Joint forces including the soldiers from 44 Rashtriya Rifles cordoned off Nowpora Nadigam hamlet after receiving inputs about the presence of militants.
The cordon and search operation turned into an encounter when militants fired upon the search party. During the initial exchange of fire, an unidentified militant was killed.
Police confirmed the killing of one militant saying that the operation is still underway.
This is the first gunfight of this month. (KNT)
