After the arrest of the accused, the victim lady thanked police and said that she was not hoping such a speedy investigation and arrest of the accused.
Srinagar: Police have arrested a young man for allegedly extorting a woman driver in Raj Bagh area of Srinagar city.
A couple of days back a lady had lodged a complaint at Police Station Raj Bagh wherein she stated that while driving towards the home of her mother to inquire about her health, she was stopped by a young man near Presentation Convent School Raj Bagh who not only banged her car but also extorted money from her.
The incident had evoked sharp response from netizens after the victim lady narrated the episode on the social media.
After the arrest of the accused, the victim lady thanked police and said that she was not hoping such a speedy investigation and arrest of the accused.
While talking to news agency Kashmir News Trust, SHO Raj Bagh Police Station, Inspector Ishaq said that it was a blind case as no CCTV footage about the incident was available with the police. “We talked to witnesses, got the clue and registration number of the vehicle that accused was driving. The outside Kashmir registration number of the vehicle was not registered at all here but we somehow managed to trace the accused and subsequently arrested him,” he said.
Inspector Ishaq said that prima facie it doesn’t seem a case of extortion as the accused who was driving his vehicle himself claimed that the lady driver hit his vehicle and to compensate the damage, he forcibly took money from the lady.
“A formal case in this regard has been registered and the accused is behind the bars,” he said.
Pertinently, the lady in her complaint had claimed that the accused threatened her of dire consequences, forcibly took her wallet and cash, banged her car and fled away. The accused as per lady had dragged her by collar, boasting all his relatives are working in the police department. (KNT)
