Three Injured as Retention Wall Collapses in Pahalgam Due to Heavy Rains

Anantnag, Mar 13, KNT: Three people sustained injuries after a portion of a retention wall collapsed in the famous tourist resort of Pahalgam in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Thursday, officials said.
According to officials, the incident occurred near the Pahalgam taxi stand, where a section of the wall gave way following incessant rainfall over the past few days. The continuous downpour had weakened the structure, leading to its sudden collapse.
Eyewitnesses reported that the collapse caused panic in the area, with bystanders rushing to help the injured before authorities arrived at the scene. Rescue teams, along with locals, managed to pull out the victims from the debris.
“The three injured individuals were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment,” an official said, adding that their condition is currently stable.
Authorities have urged people to remain cautious, especially in areas prone to landslides and structural damage due to heavy rainfall. Meanwhile, local administration officials have been directed to assess the damage and ensure preventive measures to avoid such incidents in the future. [KNT]
