Police arrest accused on charges of rape in Srinagar

Police sources said that initial investigation reveals that the accused were in touch with the girl over phone.

SRINAGAR: Police have arrested an accused on charges of rape here in Kashmir capital Srinagar. The associate of the accused is still at large while a hunt has been launched to nab him.

Sources said that a Bakarwal family from Chenab Valley registered a compliant at police station Saddar Srinagar that two youth one from Pulwama and another from Ganderbal sexually assaulted a girl at Padshahi Bagh area in Srinagar outskirts.

Taking cognizance of the complaint, police arrested one of the accused who is also from Gujjar community while his associate is absconding.

Police sources said that initial investigation reveals that the accused were in touch with the girl over phone.

When contacted, a top police official told news agency Kashmir News Trust that police station Saddar received the complaint from the family two days ago and accordingly an FIR was registered and the accused was arrested. He said one of the accused in the resident of Ganderbal and the other is from South Kashmir’s Pulwama.

“Investigation has been set into motion and all details about the incident are being collected,” he said adding efforts are on to arrest the other accused. (KNT)
