Castigating the Government for resorting to an arrest spree in wake of the G-20 meeting, People Democratic Party Chairperson Mehbooba Mufti Wednesday said that holding assembly elections are secondary till the basic rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir are not restored.
Mehbooba Mufti was talking to reporters at her party headquarters in Kashmir capital Srinagar.
“What should I discuss with the BJP that has torn the Constitution of the country into pieces? BJP claims of normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir is a make-over to hide the lies. You see how youth are being hounded and arrested because they (Government) wants to hold a G-20 meeting in Kashmir,” she said.
Mehbooba Mufti as per the news agency Kashmir News Trust said that BJP doesn’t honor the Constitution and is running the country with her own communal agenda.
In response to a question, Mehbooba Mufti said that G-20 meetings are held in various parts but the case of Kashmir is exceptional. “Government has resorted to arrest spree, arresting people. Raids are being conducted by multiple security agencies. Shopkeepers are being told to keep their shops open. Everybody is being threatened,” she said.
She said BJP is promoting movies based on communal agenda. “BJP is spreading hate. The Jammu incident in which several youth sustained injuries over a movie is an eye-opener.”
She further said that elections are secondary first of all we have to do something for those people who are languishing in outside jails. “We should have resources to plead the cases of those who are in outside jails,” she added. [KNT]
