Soldier Killed in Gunfight with Militants in J&K’s Udhampur

 

Srinagar, Apr 24, KNT: An Army soldier lost his life during an encounter between security forces and militants in the Dudu Basantgarh area of Udhampur district on Thursday, officials said.

According to Jammu and Kashmir Police, the gunfight erupted after contact was established with militants during a cordon and search operation in the hilly region. The joint operation was launched by the Army and J&K Police based on credible intelligence about the presence of militants in the area.

The White Knight Corps of the Indian Army confirmed the development, stating that a soldier sustained critical injuries during the initial exchange of fire and later succumbed despite all medical efforts.

“A joint operation with Jammu and Kashmir Police was launched today in Basantgarh, Udhampur. Contact was established, leading to a fierce firefight. One of our bravehearts sustained grievous injuries in the initial exchange and later succumbed,” the Corps said, paying tribute to the fallen jawan.

The operation was ongoing at the time of filing this report, with additional reinforcements deployed in the area. [KNT]
