KCCI Mourns Pahalgam Attack, Urges National Leaders to Protect Kashmiris, “We Mourn Lives, Not Business Losses”

Srinagar, Apr 24, KNT: The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) on Thursday expressed deep anguish over the recent militant attack in Pahalgam’s Baisaran area, describing it as a grave tragedy that transcends any commercial concern. Addressing a press conference, KCCI President Javid Tenga said the Valley-wide shutdown observed in response to the killings was a united expression of grief and a powerful condemnation of violence.

“This is not about business losses. We are here to mourn the loss of innocent lives,” Tenga said. “The people of Kashmir have spoken in one voice, rejecting violence that has no place in our culture or values.”

The KCCI extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and reaffirmed its commitment to peace, humanity, and the safety of all Kashmiris. Tenga acknowledged the wave of solidarity shown by the people, noting the complete shutdown observed on Wednesday as a symbol of collective mourning and moral resistance.

In a strong appeal to the central leadership, the KCCI urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to ensure the protection of Kashmiri students and businesspersons facing harassment in other parts of the country.

“Our hearts bleed for the victims, and while we grieve, we are also deeply concerned about the reports of Kashmiris being targeted simply for their identity. This must stop,” Tenga emphasized.

He also addressed ongoing concerns regarding the impact on tourism, reassuring travelers that Kashmir remains a safe and hospitable destination. “To all our guests, present and future, we want to say clearly: you are welcome here. Our traditions of hospitality remain unshaken.”

The KCCI president concluded by reaffirming that the focus must remain on preserving human life and promoting peace. “We will continue to engage with all stakeholders to build a Kashmir where security and prosperity go hand in hand,” he said. [KNT]
