PDD Lineman Dies After Fall from Electric Pole in Srinagar

Srinagar, Apr 21, KNT: A Power Development Department (PDD) employee lost his life on Monday after falling from an electric pole while on duty in Srinagar’s Hawal area, raising fresh concerns over worker safety protocols in the department.

The deceased has been identified as Ghulam Ali Wagay, a lineman posted in the Hawal Sub Division. According to officials, the incident occurred while Wagay was carrying out routine maintenance work. He died on the spot due to the impact of the fall.

While expressing grief over the incident, one of the employees in the department, speaking on condition of anonymity, alleged that the lineman had not been provided with any safety gear at the time of the task. “This tragedy could have been avoided. Unfortunately, most of the field workers are not given proper safety equipment,” he claimed.

The victim, sources confirmed, was a permanent employee of the department. His sudden death has sparked anger and concern among fellow workers, who demand accountability and urgent steps to improve safety standards for field staff.

“There must be a proper inquiry. It is unacceptable that our colleagues are risking their lives daily without basic protective gear,” another employee said. [KNT]
