BARAMULLA:: Diabetic patients in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district are facing a severe shortage of insulin. Concerns are rising that many could end up dying if they don’t get the drug.
A number of patients told news agency Kashmir News Trust that that there is acute shortage of insulin drugs. One of the patients who identified himself as Abdul Qadir said that neither Insulin-N or nor Insulin-R is available at Kunzar hospital of Tangmarg area.
Although the Directorate of Health Services Kashmir claims that it has huge quantities of insulin, a drug that helps keep the sugar level from getting too high or too low, patients say there is acute scarcity of the Insulin drugs.
Block Medical Officer Kunzar Dr Rukiya admitted that there is shortage of Insulin drugs across Baramulla district. She put the blame on the pharmaceutical supply chain.
Another Diabetic patient said that they will suffer immensely if they don’t receive life-sustaining insulin. His statement was echoed by another patient who said that those selling the drugs do not give explanations. “When you show your doctor’s prescription, they tell you the drugs are not available and then you have to search in pharmacies in town. Most patients often return to the hospital without the required medication,” the patient said. (KNT)
