No Animosity with Hurriyat: DG Police Ashok Prasad

Srinagar, March 15, 2013 KNT:

Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police, Ashok Prasad, stated on Friday that the police hold no animosity towards Hurriyat leaders, emphasizing that their actions are directed only at those disrupting peace.

Speaking about recent developments, he revealed that the police have made progress in the investigation of the Bemina Fidayeen attack. A militant arrested from the Chattabal area of Srinagar is currently being interrogated.

“Several individuals are being questioned, and we are hopeful of uncovering significant leads,” Prasad told the Kashmir News Trust. He further remarked that stone pelting is a criminal activity, and those involved will face legal consequences.

When asked about allegations of a crackdown on MMM and Hurriyat leaders, Prasad clarified, “We have no hostility towards anyone, including Hurriyat leaders. However, when someone breaks the law, it is our duty to take action and restore order in society.”

He also highlighted that certain individuals incite youth to engage in unlawful activities, and those responsible are being apprehended. “Our primary role is to maintain peace and order, and we are fulfilling that responsibility,” he said, adding that an FIR has been registered concerning the killing of a youth in Saidapora.

“An FIR has been filed at the police station regarding the killing of Altaf Ahmed Wani, and an investigation is underway. Our current focus is on restoring law and order; once stability is achieved, we will address all pending cases,” he added.

Commenting on the Bemina Fidayeen attack, Prasad shared that police have gathered crucial clues. “We have interrogated several individuals and expect to solve the case soon. One person has already been arrested and is being thoroughly questioned,” he concluded. [KNT]
