Central Government approves subsidized helicopter service for Jammu, Poonch, and Mendhar
Srinagar, Dec 16, KNT: The central government has sanctioned a new subsidized helicopter service to connect Jammu, Poonch, and Mendhar, along with an additional route linking Jammu directly to Mendhar.
This initiative follows a proposal from Mohammad Aijaz Asad, Secretary of the Jammu and Kashmir Civil Aviation Department, aimed at improving connectivity between Jammu, the winter capital, and the remote region of Mendhar.
The new service is designed to enhance transportation options for residents in isolated and difficult-to-reach areas like Poonch and Mendhar, particularly during the challenging winter months when accessibility is severely limited.
Aijaz Asad said that the service would provide faster and more efficient travel for the region’s residents, improve access to emergency medical care, and contribute to the development of local infrastructure.
The service is expected to boost tourism in Jammu and Kashmir by promoting border tourism in the Mendhar sector. Aijaz Asad added that the initiative not only addresses transportation challenges but also showcases the region’s scenic landscapes, opening up new avenues for tourism. [KNT]
