Airtel’s AI-Powered Spam Fighter: 8 Billion Calls, 0.8 Billion SMSes Flagged in 2.5 Months
Bharti Airtel, India’s premier telecom provider, has achieved remarkable success in combating spam communications. Within two-and-a-half months of launching its AI-powered spam-fighting solution, Airtel has identified a staggering 8 billion spam calls and 0.8 billion spam SMSes.
The company’s advanced algorithm has successfully flagged close to 1 million spammers daily, alerting 252 million unique customers to suspicious calls. This proactive approach has led to a 12% decline in customers answering spam calls.
Airtel’s findings reveal intriguing insights. Six percent of all calls and 2% of SMSes on the network were classified as spam. Interestingly, 35% of spammers utilize landline phones. Delhi receives the maximum number of spam calls, followed by Andhra Pradesh and Western Uttar Pradesh. Conversely, Delhi, Mumbai, and Karnataka top the list of spam call origins.
In terms of SMSes, Gujarat, Kolkata, and Uttar Pradesh lead in spam origins, while Mumbai, Chennai, and Gujarat have the maximum targeted customers. The data also indicates that 76% of spam calls target male customers, with those aged 36-60 receiving 48% of all spam calls. Senior citizens receive only 8% of spam calls.
Device analysis shows that 22% of spam calls target devices priced between ₹15,000-20,000. Spam activity peaks between noon-3 pm on weekdays, with a notable 40% decrease on Sundays.
Airtel’s AI-driven system meticulously examines multiple parameters to identify unwanted intrusions in real-time. This groundbreaking initiative sets new industry standards for inclusive security measures, prioritizing customer privacy and convenience.
