Conference on ‘Unity and Social Reform’ held in South Kashmir’s Shopian
Srinagar, Aug 19, KNT: A one-day conference on “Unity of the Ummah and Social Reform” was held at the Jamia Masjid in Jamanagri in district Shopian, under the joint auspices of the Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulema (MMU) Jammu and Kashmir and Karwan-e-Khatm-e-Nabuwat.
The event saw the participation of renowned scholars, eminent jurists, intellectuals, and a large gathering of people from Jammu and Kashmir. However, the head of the Muttahida Majlis-e-Ulema, Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Dr Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq, could not attend the conference due to the recent death of a family member.
The speakers emphasized the need to hold such meetings and conferences in every district of Kashmir in light of the current societal situation in Jammu and Kashmir. The speakers said the Kashmiri society is facing the serious concern of drug addiction and other intoxicants including alcohol among its youth and children while many social ills have also crept onto the social scene and community life and on the other hand, some opportunistic elements are engaged in attempts to disrupt the sectarian and communal harmony of the region, which has to be resisted resolutely.
The speakers unanimously expressed their commitment to continue to united struggle against all these serious threats and negative factors under the leadership of Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir. They praised Mirwaiz’s efforts for stat- wise campaign against these serious social challenges being faced by the nation. They also urged the heads of all religious, and social organizations, including NGOs and Imams and scholars, to contribute at their respective levels to resolve the problems facing society.
Finally, Mirwaiz e Kashmir, conveyed his message to the participants of the conference saying that, as a community, the severe challenges and difficulties we face today demand that we firmly follow the teachings of the Quran and Sunnah and firmly stand together under the banner of unity and thwart the malicious intentions of disruptive elements.
